Participation in Extension

(1) How does the institution promote the participation of the students and faculty in extension activities of NSS, NCC, YRC and other NGOs? How often and in what roles are they involved?

(I) N.S.S. Unit

Second year B.R.S. students are registered as N.S.S. volunteers every year. One teacher is appointed as a programme officer who looks after overall activities of the N.S.S. all teachers actively participate in the regular activities as well as special camps of the N.S.S. unit N.S.S. unit has following main programmes.

(a) N.S.S. special camp: Once in a year for 10 days.
(b) Fifteen regular programmes every year.

(II) Extension activities through different committees

Almost all the teachers are serving in different extension activities through various committees of the college. These committees of the college organize various extension and social activities in collaboration with NGOs. Generally each sub committee arranges all least one programme in a year, with NGO, either on the college campus or in the nearby villages.

Extension Activities of Different Committees:

(1) Health committee
  • - Blood Donation Campus
  • - AIDS Awareness camps
  • - Seminar on Disease control in Disease Outbreaks.
  • - Health and Nutrition Awareness seminars in nearby villages.

    (2) Women Development and child welfare committee
  • - Women health and sanitation awareness seminars.
  • - Organizes seminar on woman rights and privileges
  • - To encourage women for child education and nutrition.
  • - To inform women about Nutritious yet economic food items.

    (3) Nature and Environment Committee
  • - Tree plantation programs in collaboration with forest department of Gujarat.
  • - Nature and Environment Awareness programs in nearby villages.

    (4) Agricultural Advisory committee
  • - To organize seminars on scientific farming and its benefits.
  • - To arrange farmers meet in nearby villages regarding fertilizers, pesticides, IPM, seed varieties, etc.
  • - To inform farmers about watershed management, bore and well recharging and their benefits.

    (5) Animal care committee
  • - To organize veterinary clinical camps in collaboration with animal husbandry department of Gujarat.
  • - To carryout vaccination camps in nearby villages.
  • - To encourage farmers for scientific animal rearing and to adopt latest technology.
  • - To carry survey on animals and animal owners about their socio-economic status.

    (6) Khedut shibir and Gram shibir committee
  • - To understand farmers problems at their doorstep.
  • - To organize farmers-experts meet in the villages.
  • - To encourage village youth for labour and our cultural heritage.
  • - To create linkage between villagers villagers and the institution.

    (2) Is there any research or extension work to ensure social justice and to empower under privileged sections in particular, women and children?

    The institute is well aware of its social and community responsibilities and it discharges its role meaningfully through following activities of “women development and child welfare committee” of college.

    Activities :

  • (1) To awake them for women rights and privileges.
  • (2) To inform women about legal provided by the government.
  • (3) To inform about NGOs working for women.
  • (4) To create awareness about women health, child education, rural sanitation, etc.

    (3) What is the impact of extension on the community? Specify.
    general following impacts could be observed

  • (1) The B.R.S. programme is providing employment more efficiently to its graduate than to its synonymous equal courses. This resulted in more rush to this course in recent years.
  • (2) People of the nearby villages have become more scientific in this farming. Animal rearing and other activities, due to extension work of our institution.
  • (3) People have become well aware of beneficiary schemes sponcered by government and co-operative sectors. Hence they are taking advantages of them more than effectively.
